Deep within the jungles of Yucatán
península, 3 hours drive fromCancún
and two from Mérida, lie the temples
and pyramids of probably the best-
known civilizations of Mesoamerica,
the Mayan.
They invented the calendars we use
today. Without metal tools they were
able to construct vast cities across
a huge jungle landscape with an
amazing degree of architectural per-
fection and variety. Their legacy in
stone, remains in a spectacular fash-
ion at places such as Chichén Itzá, Tu-
lum and Uxmal. Piste is a small town
located 2 km away from Chichén Itzá.
There are hotels and Mexican res-
taurants here as well as stores and a
number of craft market vendors.
En lo profundo de las selvas de la pe-
nínsula de Yucatán, a tres horas en
coche desde Cancún y dos de Mérida
se encuentran los templos y pirámides
de la más conocida de las civilizacio-
nes de Mesoamérica, la maya.
Ellos inventaron los calendarios que
usamos hoy en día. Sin herramientas
de metal fueron capaces de cons-
truir grandes ciudades a través de
un paisaje de selva enorme, con un
asombroso grado de perfección. Su
legado en piedra, restos de una ma-
nera espectacular en lugares como
Chichén Itzá, Tulum y Uxmal. Pisté es
un pequeño pueblo situado a 2 km de
Chichén, donde hay hoteles y restau-
rantes, así como tiendas y vendedores
en el mercado de artesanías.
